Shake-up sweeps through BPC

In order to adapt to today’s power sector challenges, Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) chairman Sebetela Sebetela says the corporation needs to build capacity that would necessitate it to deliver on its mandate. Sebetela explains to Mmegi correspondent BOITSHEPO MAJUBE what needs to be done to turn around the fortunes of the loss-making corporation. He does not shy away from the harm the corporation has caused to the economy of this country, as he acknowledges the harm, he asks for patience and understanding, pointing out that they are doing everything in their power to correct the situation.

Business Week: What informed BPC Board to engage a management contract?

Sebetela: In the last two to five years, the business has changed significantly in terms of the scope and complexity. BPC has ventured into generation of power, something that they were not a significant player in.
