GU retain four-point lead

Title rivals, Township Rollers also beat Mahalapye Highlanders 2-0 in Serowe and kept their title ambitions alive.

GU went into the match looking for a revenge after BDF XI became the only other side besides Rollers to beat GU so far. The Reds made their intentions clear as early as the 11th minute when Thero Setsile easily tapped in Onkabetse Makgantai’s cross. BDF XI had the chance to equalise from a corner kick few minutes later but GU goalkeeper, Goitseone Phoko was equal to the task and made a good save. They had another chance moments later after catching GU defence napping but Mbonisi Ncube tripped, giving GU defence a chance to clear the ball from the danger area. Not many chances were created in the first half with most of the action concentrated in the middle of the park and GU took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The first 15 minutes of the second half also produced few chances until Phoko was called into action from a free-kick. GU caught BDF XI on the counter and Makgantai delivered a brilliant cross to Mpho Kgaswane who failed to take a shot. BDF XI then failed to make a decisive clearance and Thatayaone Kgamanyane capitalised to stretch GU's lead. With 10 minutes remaining, substitute Sizwe Twala found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat but he shot over the crossbar. Kgamanyane and Setsile’s goals were enough to take GU to 60 points from 24 matches. Rollers have now collected 56 points from 25 matches after Segolame Boy and Tlhalefo Molebatsi’s goals yesterday. In another match played yesterday, Security Systems beat Extension Gunners 3-0 in Lobatse with goals from Sadiki Takunda, Poloko Nkalolang and Tebogo Kopelang.
