The battle for control of Kgatleng giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs is now before the courts

The Kgatleng giants are currently facing internal bickering between the society and the company, Mochudi Centre Chiefs (Pty) Ltd.

The society, led by chairperson Victor Kobe, filed a case at the High Court challenging the legitimacy of the company, which currently runs the football team. Their argument is that during the club’s transformation efforts, some vital stages and processes were not followed in attaining the company status.

They now want the company to return the team and its assets to the society.

On Wednesday last week, the two camps only dealt with the issue of whether the matter should be treated as urgent. On Friday, the High Court ruled that the matter is not urgent.

However, the merits of the case are yet to be dealt with. Responding to the ruling, the company, through its social media page posted,” Now that we know, some matters are not urgent.

Let us not lose sight of the constant that makes everything urgent; the love for the mighty Chiefs. Let that constant unite us. Let us focus on the goal. We shall overcome.” The chairperson from the society’s side, Kobe on the other hand said they will go back to the drawing board adding that they will advise supporters on the way forward in due course. “But what we can assure you is that this matter is far from being over, we will bring back the team and its assets to the rightful owners,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB) will this week meet with two Mares players, Kesegofetse Mochawe and Refilwe Tholakele who are reportedly in the country after sneaking out of Equatorial Guinea.

The duo joined Malabo Kings in August this year from Prisons XI and Township Rollers respectively but are said to have made a quick return home citing unfair treatment from their new club. Speaking to Sport Monitor, FUB secretary-general, Kgosana Masaseng said they will meet the players this week to find out what really transpired and map the way forward. He also said they got a call from the players some weeks ago expressing their desire to terminate the contracts with the club. He said the union received some documents from the players to try and assist them with the process.

He stated that while they were still working on it, the players called and informed the union that they have since arrived in Botswana. He said the FUB legal team had already put up a letter to Malabo Kings to alert them about what the players said. “The issue was very simple.

They wanted an early termination of the contracts.

They have since made an appointment with us for this coming week to hear what really happened and why they ended up here,” Masaseng said. He said the players are complaining about living conditions and late payments adding that these are the things that the union will first have to verify with the club before they act.
