Ahead of the two sides’ encounter, Matebele were sitting at the summit of the log standings with 14 points, two more than City Polar who were on position two. The 1-0 win took City Polar to 15 points and they remain the only side in the league without a loss so far.
Out of seven games played, they won four and drew three, scoring eight goals in the process. For Matebele, it was their first defeat of the season and have been enjoying a good run with four wins and two draws.
Meanwhile, Mochudi Centre Chiefs who started the season on fire returned to winning ways on Saturday when they beat Notwane 2-0. Magosi recently hit a slump when they registered two consecutive losses.
On Saturday they took advantage of their home ground after Notwane decided to take the game to Skanska River Plate ground after being ‘denied’ the chance to host it at the National Stadium.
Magosi are now sitting at position three with 13 points, two lower than those of the log leaders. Notwane on the other hand dropped to position five with 11 points. Uniao Flamengo Santos who started the season on a low note are now flying high and moved to position four with 12 points.
On Saturday they defeated Matebejana 3-2 in a five-goal thriller. Early favourites, Black Forest, are still finding it hard to prove their mettle after playing to a 0-0 draw against struggling side, Black Rangers.
Forest have only won two matches in seven games and sit at position nine with seven points. Rangers remain rooted at the bottom with two points from seven games. In another realm, TAFIC maintained their good run in the First Division North league beating MR Highlanders 1-0 on Saturday to retain their position at the top of the log standings.
Matjimenyenga have won five out of seven matches with two other matches ending in a stalemate. They have so far collected 17 points. Mbalakalungu, who started the season well, played to a 1-1 draw against Calendar Stars.
