Lengau Wine Company organised a wine tasting session, for South African company, DGB, one of the leading producers of wines and spirits in the region.
DGB export manager for South and West Africa, Jorge Ferreira, introduced those who attended the tasting to a new phenomenon of wine and chocolates.
Most of the individuals who attended the wine tasting session seemed surprised at the thought of mixing wine and chocolates, but after the tasting a ‘wow’ chorus could be heard from all corners.
Ferreira explained that the trick is in making sure that the right wine is paired with a specific type of chocolate. He explained that the chocolate usually brings out the fruity tones in the wine.
While many who attended seemed skeptical at the prospect of having wine with chocolate, a number of them were curious.
After the tasting, they even asked where they could buy the chocolate that was being used for the tasting session.
Unfortunately for those in attendance who were now keen on pairing chocolate and wine again, he announced that the chocolate used at the event, is not available in retail stores, as they only use it for their tasting sessions.
Ferreira explained they initially used to match their wines with chocolate that was readily available in the market, eventually they decided to make chocolate to suit their wines.
White wines were paired with white chocolate, with a smell similar to the wine.
Each pairing was a tantalising experience, with both wine and chocolate complementing each other well.
The chocolate brought out the fruitiness in the wines, as Ferreira had explained.
Now fully converted by the end of the session, many in attendance had decided they would never again drink wine without some chocolate.
Ferreira announced that DGB has engaged Lengau to distribute its brands in Botswana to make for easier availably of their brands in the country.
“Lengau will also distribute our spirit brands such as Po10c, Zappa, Kiss, Tang, Lovoka, La Peche, Antonella Tiramisu, Strawberry Lips, Butlers Liquors, Black Douglas, and Antonella Grappa,” he said.
DGB (Pty) Ltd produces and distributes wines and spirits in South Africa and internationally.
The company was formerly known as Douglas Green Bellingham and changed its name to DGB (Pty) Ltd in 1997.
