The 21-year-old musician from Tshane in Kgalagadi North has released his first single titled Tsaa Uzwe, which means ‘have a taste’, in English.
The single is the young man’s first offering, a product which will test the market’s reception to his artistry, while also giving music lovers a taste of his musical capabilities. The young man, who describes his music as Tswana House, collaborated with Kgosithebe Toto popularly known as Afro Zest, a member of popular local group Team Distant.
Afro Zest produced of the single.
The song however does not give insight into the young man’s vocal ability, because there isn’t much singing. The artist however managed to come up with a good dance song. The arrangement is commendable especially for a first solo project. The instruments and his voice are harmonious throughout the song. Perhaps it’s because the genre he selected puts more emphasis on beats rather than vocals. De Ampo has ensured that the exquisitely arranged beats come out clearly to tantalize the listener’s ear. House music is generally a genre that incorporates little singing with danceable beats and the use of creative sound.
Apart from singing the chorus, De Ampo throws in narrations here and there, in Sekgalagadi. Interestingly, De Ampo’s has a few lines, which talk about the importance of including God in one’s life.
While the single is his first product as a solo artist, De Ampo is not new to the music industry. In 2013 he was a member of a dance group called Da Tag Team. The group had the opportunity to work with some of the best musical acts in the house industry, like Shota from South Africa, and local DJ Anthem.
“My love for music uprooted as I worked with many house music artists. I realised that I was vocally gifted. I then decided to record my first single, which is written in Sekgalagadi. It is going to take the music industry by storm. This song depicts the rhythm and vibe of Kgalagadi,” he said.
