Here’s a bit of general knowledge even I didn’t know, or rather pay attention to.

Cookies are large, heavy, chunky, rough, and crispy and have more flavours.

There is a wide variety of flavours used as they use many ingredients. On the other hand, biscuits are crispy, thin and fluffy. They only require a few ingredients and take a short time to bake.

Despite the differences, both are baked products enjoyed globally. Both are homemade or mass-produced and can be served with different beverages such as tea, coffee or enjoyed as a basic snack with a glass of milk.

The origin of cookies is rather interesting. Initially, cooks would use a small piece of cake batter to test the temperature of the oven before baking cakes. The small batches of cakes now referred to as cookies were called koekje in Dutch. A chance discovery, lol. Susan Khosa, who recently graduated with a double major in Economics from UB, started selling cookies while at tertiary.

Baking has been a part of her life from a young age and it came naturally for her to fall into the line of business. Her mom is a baker who has a focus on cakes and also opened up one of the few baking stores found in Gaborone, Bakers Requisites located at Northgate mall, which is a great go-to store for bakers.

This is where she buys 90% of her ingredients, the store has been a great support in regards to creating the flavours and quality of her cookies. Having been introduced to baking so early, Susan had an opportunity to branch out and created Cookie Cloud.

A Cookies and Treats outlet that she runs from home, which has found a niche market and has since 2019, seen her work hard to perfect her cookie flavour profiles.

She is a one woman business who is very passionate about her cookies and the quality she delivers. Through word of mouth and advertisements on IG her orders are growing exponentially which has her looking to hire soon to ensure she meets the demand for her scrumptious cookies.

Her end goal is to have her products stocked in cafeterias, supermarkets and be distributed locally and internationally (she once had an order go as far as Greece). Initially there were 8 flavours available, but they have since been reduced with the not so popular ones being discontinued or put on hold whilst being reimagined. What’s left are flavours which are not only synonymous with the word cookie, they are also the people's absolute favourites. These include Double Chocolate, Peanut Butter Oatmeal, White Chocolate Oatmeal, and Chocolate Chip.

Cookie Cloud is a small business with a huge goal to reach the masses. Susan looks to convince everyone they need a great cookie in their life, regardless of their age. She strongly believes Cookie Cloud is for everyone. Operating Mon to Fri 9am till 5pm, orders are mostly made in advance, however there is an ongoing unfolding plan in progress to make cookies readily available daily. Currently minimum orders are for 20 cookies, with a bigger box of 40 available all presented in beautiful packaging. Cookie Cloud does not limit themselves and have catered for corporate orders as well as chefs who incorporate their cookies into their desserts.

They see all these interactions as great opportunity for one more person to have a Cookie Cloud experience. Best sellers and most requested are Double Chocolate and Chocolate Chip.

This young lady drives and determination is inspiring. I believe that every Motswana should have an opportunity to taste her cookies, and to support her bigger goal of making the country proud, by exporting cookies and competing with international brands. Her family supports her and she couldn't go without mentioning her brothers.

We believe that her dreams are valid. To start of with, most bakers provide cakes and cupcakes, not many make cookies. I found the cookies were comforting. They made me feel warm and like everything would be alright. They are downright delicious!! I couldn’t wait to get home to sample them with a tall glass of milk as they are rich. She's nailed them.

They are soft, gooey in the middle and golden with a generous amount of chocolate Chips which melt in your mouth. I enjoyed the oatmeal variations as they offer a somewhat healthier alternative.

I wasn’t sure about the peanut butter oatmeal until I tried it and loved how it incorporated three ingredients that I have only ever had separately or in a healthy breakfast oats bowl. Do yourself a huge favour and check out cookie_cloud9 on Instagram and Facebook or simply get yourself a box of melt in your mouth goodness by calling Susan on 77497398.
