Food is one basic need that every individual should have access to. Even though we eat food to survive and get healthy, nothing beats a delicious warm meal, tasty and healthy sauces make them mouth watering.

Samantha Wame Jay, the director of a sauce manufacturing company called Saucesome (Pty) Ltd that trades as Samjay's Smoking Hot Sauce decided to make them for a living.

The talented 31-year-old Nswazwi native decided to transform her passion for cooking into something profitable. “I am outgoing and love taking risks. I am a lover of life and experiencing new things.

I have always been very passionate about cooking so it was a natural transition to venture into manufacturing sauces. My journey with making sauces started in 2018, selling to a couple of householders, catering companies, family and friends until I noticed my customer base growing,” said the mother of one. “That was when I decided to approach the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture for funding in August 2021.

I was fortunate enough to be granted funding and now I run a fully-fledged business operation that distributes to other parts of Botswana such as Francistown, Werda and Letlhakane. The public is responding really well to my sauces since I have been getting calls from most parts of Botswana,” she said. However, she pointed out that the challenge she had with producing her sauces was the continuous increase in prices of vegetables and oil.

She then explained that she tires to overcome it by selling her sauces in bulk saying that way, they move fast therefore forcing her to make more. She said she has realised that selling in bulk still made her profits even with the price increase.

She also said she wanted to see her sauces in every single restaurant in Africa adding that she wishes to achieve that goal within five years. However, she explained that her biggest inspiration was Tabasco sauce, how they managed to penetrate every single restaurant and supermarket in the whole planet fascinates her and makes her want to be like them and even better.

Their sauces are all garlic and herbs flavoured. They are sold at 250 milliliters bottles at P35. The flavours sold include Sweet and Sour, Hot, Extra Hot and Mild.
