Chiefs target Play-off after getting points back

Mochudi Centre Chiefs have welcomed a ruling by the Botswana Football League (BFL) panel to reverse an earlier decision by the First Division South league committee to deduct four points.

Magosi have now set their eyes to competing for the play-off position in the league.

They now move to position four on the log standings with 31 points, six less than Union Flamengo Santos who currently occupy the second spot and three behind City Polar on third position. Not only are Chiefs eyeing six points from their two remaining games, they are also hoping that their match against Desert Nxau will be replayed. "We are left with two games, technically three because we are awaiting our protested game against Desert Nxau. This gives us a better chance to compete for the Play-off. We want to focus on that and try and get maximum points in all the remaining games," Chiefs' spokesperson, Boraro Moseki said in an interview with MmegiOnline.

Moseki further clarified that the game against Desert Nxau started late because the referees officiating the game had arrived late. He said the half time break only lasted eight minutes instead of the normal practice of 15 minutes. Further to their woes the game had to end with 13 minutes remaining because of darkness. He said they have since lodged a protest and expect the match to be replayed. The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Moseki said the issue of deduction of points has affected their performance and cost them some matches including one against Extension Gunners. He expressed disappointment with the leadership of the league on how they handled the issue. "I said it before and still say it that, football is not run with a gun in your hands. It was not procedural to dock our hard earned points just like that. We got them inside the field of play and it was only fair that we lose them inside the field of play, not at the gate. If they felt we did not follow certain processes, the procedure is to call us to a disciplinary hearing so that we answer for ourselves, " he said.

However, Magosi coach welcome the latest development to reverse the earlier decision.

"During our submission, the one man judge appointed stated out clearly that it was unprocedural to dock our four points and instructed they be reversed. We are happy with the decision. The judgement further indicates that we pay the 10% remitence that we have not been paying and we are more than ready to comply with the decision and to fully obey the set deadline," he said .
