It was Jaguars’ second successive defeat to Hogs in the final. The two faced off before a fully packed Gaborone Rugby Football Club (GRFC) on Saturday. Hogs assistant coach, Vuyisile Moyo was a man on cloud nine with a brimming smile after Hogs’ heroic display in the final.
“I am very happy with everything that has transpired today and for us to be able to defend our championship once more against Jaguars is really a great feeling. The game went very well and we executed our game plan.
The boys played well and in the second half we turned up the heat when our forwards carried us throughout the game. The forwards won us the game and the defence was also solid as we conceded only one try,” Moyo said with a radiant smile. From the first whistle, the two teams showed hunger but it was Hogs that seemed to have an upper hand with their scrum half doing marvellous job in the middle of the park. It only took Hogs four minutes into the game to earn their first try.
Hogs broke on the flank with Mpho Ramorweenyape showing his prowess with speed and endurance to break the deadlock on the day. Hogs were now leading 7-0 after their conversion. Jaguar’s main downfall in the game was failure to make passes without losing the ball as Hogs easily dispossessed them. Hogs pounced on the slip up at the back by Jaguars scrum half, Stan Chikuma who failed to deal with the ball mid-air to earn another try for themselves. It was now 14-0 after the follow up conversion.
Hogs were outclassing Jaguars on all areas as Jaguars even failed to get outside their own half. Jaguars broke on attack through Tonic Ndoda who led the pack. The move by Jaguars was cut short as they ran into Hogs’ strong defence. The two sides went to the break scores standing at 14-0 with Jaguars failing to earn themselves a point.
Coming from the half time break, Hogs continued from where they had left off as they added to their tally. They completely bulldozed Jaguars defence to bring the scores to 21-0 after the follow up conversion kick. Hogs tapped on the momentum and earned themselves another try through the left flank. Hogs were now cruising as Jaguars were outclassed.
Jaguars earned their first points late in the game through Ndoda’s kick. Scores were now 26 3. The game went on to end 33-3 after Hogs scored one more try late in the game. UB Rhinos walked away with bronze medal.
