Long distance bus fares hiked

According to the ministry's statement, 'long distance buses travelling on bitumen roads will charge 18.58 thebe per kilometre while long distance buses travelling on sandy and gravel roads will now cost 20.55 thebe per kilometre.'

The increases do not affect Taxi and Combi operations whose fares remain as P3.60 and P3. 00 respectively, the statement added.

The ministry has requested long distance bus operators to obtain an updated table of fares from the nearest offices of the Department of Road Transport and Safety to ensure compliance with the new increases. The minister further advised passengers to ensure that they are charged the right fares and demand receipts from operators as proof of payment.
