Normally, people get the chance to experience the journey of their favourite contestants by attending fashion shows and the pageantry grand finale. However, due to the pandemic, Miss Botswana organisers, Development Advance Institute (DAI), say all is not lost because the docuseries will be broadcast on Botswana Television once they wrap up with the crowning of a new queen. “Organisers of Miss Botswana will this year, in spite of COVID, shoot a 13-episode TV documentary reality series which will document the Miss Botswana journey.
The grand finale of the pageant will not be held in the SPEDU region,” DAI revealed. Miss Botswana organisers also indicated that they closed the call for Miss Botswana 2021 auditions last Saturday. “We are delighted to have received 72 good entries through online submissions. From this week the judges will start the selection criteria for the Top 30 who will take part in the fashion show that will be held on the October 2, 2021 where top 16 will be selected”, the organisers said.
They further indicated that 72 is a good number of entries, considering that in 2019, despite a countrywide scouting travel over eight locations, only 74 entries were recorded. Besides the docuseries, DAI recently revealed that they have partnered with new car dealer, Magariland which will see this year’s queen walking away with a Mercedes Benz C200 car. Miss Botswana 2019 Oweditse Phirinyane has been the longest reigning queen and she will finally hand over the crown to a new queen later this year. The new queen will represent Botswana at Miss World pageant in Puerto Rico on December 16, 2021.
