Gaborone Sun Wins Global Award

Over 167,000 leading professionals in the travel industry, from over 160 countries nominate and vote in the awards described by the Wall Street Journal as the 'Oscars of the travel industry'.
The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 with a vision to identify, acknowledge and recognise excellence in the global travel and tourism industry. The awards are regarded as the highest achievement that a travel, hospitality and tourism product can achieve. Gaborone Sun was recognised at the recent awards' ceremony in Durban, South Africa.
The hotel's marketing manager Andre du Plessis said the ceremony forms part of the World Travel Awards Grand Tour. This comprises regional award ceremonies in major cities around the world and culminates in the grand final in the Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean in December 2008.
Speaking at the ceremony in Durban, Graham Cooke, president and founder of the World Travel Awards contended that he hoped that the winners have set a supreme standard of professionalism in Africa with excellent examples of creativity and business acumen that can stimulate others to raise their performance and their profile, not only within the African industry but worldwide.
The Gaborone Sun was nominated in the category of Botswana's leading resort with the Sun International Group collecting the award for Africa's leading hotel brand.
Sun International - Botswana operations general manager, Lance Rossouw, has acknowledged the award and pointed out that: 'Through the efforts of the Gaborone Sun team, we are delighted to have received this award for the second time. The hotel has been operating in Botswana for many years and employs talented and motivated Batswana - this award recognizes that fact and that Botswana is a travel destination of choice with the Gaborone Sun playing an integral role'.
