Dining out

The highly competitive tourist market in the Cape requires food of outstanding quality and excellent service, both of which are major priorities. The Dros Group has been extremely successful since inception, with the Restaurant and Wine Cellar growing from strength to strength. They established themselves in a niche market as a family restaurant with a strong bar provision and a focus to position themselves as even better and stronger in the family market of the Hospitality Industry.
Sunday is traditionally family day. Some if not most families wake up early for church or house chores and get into the routine of preparing and enjoying a Seven Colours Meal together. Taking the family out for a meal is also a more convenient alternative when the pockets allow. Dros Gaborone, located at Molapo Crossing is family orientated and has introduced a special which makes Sunday dining out very economic. KIDS EAT FOR FREE ON SUNDAYS!!!! Ts & Cs apply. There is a soft play set for children of ages five years and younger. There is also an external playground for older kids with a big jungle gym, slides and obstacle course available for use by patrons.
There is a lounge area with easy access to the playground. If you are anything like me, and you move around a lot with the family as I do with my two boys, this is an ideal set up.
They had a long overdue play date with their very good friends (COVID-19 has had us apprehensive about mingling) and the boys played to their hearts content. In fact, they played so hard that they almost slept from afternoon till Monday morning hadn’t we woken them up for a light supper. Between the two sets of brothers, they shared and enjoyed a double Pizza Special of large Regina and Chicken Pizzas.
Whilst we the adults (parents) indulged in the grown up menu. I had a Rib and Wing Combo and the ribs were deliciously cooked to perfection. You know when you take a bite and get BBQ sauce on your face, but you don’t stop to wipe yourself because you're in too deep? That’s the kind of lip smack goodness this combo presented. The wings were tender and juicy, ke gore ka fa my face has rib sauce, ka fa I am licking my fingers from the succulent wings, go tlhakatlhakane! With the current national potato crisis I shudder at ordering chips out, but these were pleasant. Well-seasoned and crispy. My other guest had the Mushroom Melt Steak and the feedback was of a satisfied experience.
The rump was medium done with a melt in your mouth tenderness, and this was very complementary to the light mushroom sauce generously drizzled atop the meat cut. That’s not all!!! This dish lives up to its name because there is also a layer of molten cheddar cheese beneath the mushroom sauce, creating an amalgamation of flavours deserving of a standing ovation. Everyday runs a different special, this is what makes Dros appealing. Mondays they have Rib Night of a huge rack of ribs topped with steak or wings.
Thursdays are for Calamari Madness and Cocktail Specials. These are the two days of the week with live entertainment from the beautiful, amazing and multi-talented songstress Fifi Afrika, who also makes her own dresses and hats (in case you didn’t know).
The daily pizza special is another one to take note of; two for the price of one. Dros Molapo Crossing opens Monday-Sunday from 8am until 12pm with a kitchen that closes quite late. Since the reopening of the industry post COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, many establishments are still closing their kitchens early. Dros Molapo also caters to late night meetings for those leaving the office late or entertaining late. Walk-ins and delivery orders are available as well. One rather exciting development, which will be launched with in a matter of weeks, is the Dros Molapo Crossing Lounge. This private space will be available for small functions, meetings and team buildings.
It is spacious and accommodates 40pax. Well furnished with comfortable couches, a cocktail set up, bespoke lighting and other compelling finishings, this private room can be booked ahead of time and Dros will set it up. Décor from outside is allowed for the guest to customise the precise look and feel they aim to achieve. The space is very big and so there is room for creativity.
Tshepiso, the manager, was very excited to share the news of this unique development and believes it will make his establishment stand out and be even more appealing. The Dros Experience - friendly, warm and inviting. Their vision is to see more families dining with them.
