The product images were of mini cakes, doughnuts, and other fancy and well-crafted confectionery pieces. I can confidently say that no one else offers a menu like theirs.

The only standard/generic items on the menu are those that have been outsourced from the owner’s amazing baker counterparts; Macaroons from Eccentrik Bakery, The Humming Bird Cake from Shanganani and Just Ginger beverages. A powerful model where collaboration is priority if it’s for the benefit of the company.

A great lesson the owner and founder learned collaborating at the Just Ginger Container, one we could all learn from. Ginger Pink Bakery has just opened the cutest quaint space for us to either have a seat and enjoy a treat or take them away to enjoy in the comfort of your home or office. Even under the tree over your lunch break on one of those days where only cake can make everything feel better. One can only appreciate how central the shop is. Just down the road from BOCRA and Karong Clinics lies this gem, accessible by fairgrounds, main mall, and the surrounding neighborhoods, Ext 5 and Ext 11.

The yard in which they are situated consist of other businesses, including a lawyer and nail bar. There is a hit TV series called 2 Broke Girls, which I got into a couple years ago.

An easy watch with a satire type of comedy. Max and Caroline are two strangers from different backgrounds who both end up for lack of a better word broke. As their paths cross, the two realise that together with their strengths and weaknesses combined, they could do something really special. They set out to open a bakery and through all the challenges life throws at them, they confidently conquer and prevail. A success story of following their dreams. Watching the show, I used to want to buy their cupcakes, the passion behind them was astonishing, and also there being a lack of offering in bakeries locally, I would often fanaticise about how lovely it would be to have a shop like theirs. When I walked into the shop and started chatting to the owner, I immediately was reminded of that very TV show.

If you’ve ever seen that show and loved it, visit the Ginger Pink Bakery for the nostalgia of imagination. If you would like to indulge in some bespoke goodies, this is the spot for you.

I had an opportunity to sit-in, early in the morning and enjoy a Ginger Honey Poached Pear Cake. While I explored it, a customer came in and was curious about it but hesitant, she asked me to describe it; Subtle, Spicy, Not too sweet, tropical, different and balanced are some of the words I used between bites. She opted for a Brownie but was clear about coming back for it.

She played it safe with what I believe is a generous brownie. The big fudgy guilty pleasure of a brownie is one of their best sellers. It’s a fighter. I also had an opportunity to pass through over the lunch time rush. With a little time to spare, I casually asked Fifi and Nono what they thought of what they were having as the girlfriends shared a Ginger Honey Poached Pear Cake. Girlfriend 1 thought it tasted like “Carrot Cake’s Older Sophisticated Cousin. It has a similar sweetness and use of cream cheese frosting. I don’t much like carrot cake but I like this”. Girlfriend 2 chipped in, who also felt the flavour profile, like all of their bakes are special because they take their time to make them special. “I have never had this flavour before and I have never seen it”. She also said the owner once made her birthday cake and that it is impressive how much work and effort she puts in. Her prices are more than justified.

A friend of mine also turned up (quite the busy ‘new’ spot). She had time to kill after picking one of her kids from school and had to wait to collect another. They made an excursion of it and got brownies and the Strawberry Cream Cheese. She thought it tasted brilliant and so did I! My favourite thing about it was how the berries subliminally flavoured the sponge.

Every bite leaves you yearning for one more. Ginger Pink is all about creating bakes that translate into beautiful memories, the vision is to take this across Botswana and to the world.

In 2013 Cupcake Mistress was born and later rebranded as Ginger Pink Bakery in 2016 after having gained experience, exploring and falling deeper in love with baking.
