Diteemane, meaning diamonds in Setswana, was chosen from a long list of options, as the team get its first nickname since BTTA's inception in 1994. In a statement released yesterday (Monday), the BTTA said they hope the nickname will inspire the national team to shine at the upcoming AUSC Region 5 games scheduled for later this month. “Botswana Table Tennis Association would like to announce the official name for our national team.

The official name for our National Team is 'Diteemane' a Tswana name for Diamonds. This is to symbolise the strength a diamond displays under any pressure either big or small. The name will also be a motivation for our team ahead of the upcoming Region 5 Games. Thank you to everyone who took part in the name suggestions,” the statement reads. Meanwhile, the BTTA held a club championship over the weekend where the national team sections were dominant.

The men's Team A made up of Bakang Maloka, Kola Modisaotsile and invitee Otsile Ramatshaba were the winners of the tournament. In the women's section, Team A made up of Tshepiso Rebatenne, Tsholofelo Gaokgalemelwe and Game Kebodiwang came out victorious. The national team is currently in camp preparing for the AUSC Region 5 games to be held in South Africa from June 30 to July 3. The team is under the watchful eye of Thobo Matlhatsi and Boykie Selerio.
