Keep safe, protect yourself!

The latest report released by government shows that statistics from May 29 to June 1 indicate the number of active cases during that period to be at 2,843, while new cases for the period mentioned stood at 1,627 and three deaths.
These numbers are a serious concern because many people after seeing cases drop, became relaxed and were no longer adhering to the set guidelines. Some businesses have stopped sanitising their customers as they enter their business premises.
Let us get back on track and assist government in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. The previous two years (particularly 2021) were tough on families as many lost their loved ones to the pandemic. People were scared then as the virus was wreaking havoc and we all wanted to make sure we did not contract the disease.
Let us go back to that same state of vigilance to protect ourselves and those around us. The government worked hard to ensure that everyone is vaccinated against COVID-19. Of course, some people have exercised their right not to get vaccinated, but at what cost?
It has been explained time and again that getting vaccinated does not mean one will not get infected with COVID-19, but should one get infected the vaccines provide strong protection against serious illness, hospitalisation or death.
Also, getting vaccinated does not mean that one should be irresponsible and not follow proper precautions! Let us come together to defeat this monster! We can win the war if we continue to wear our masks as prescribed, wash our hands, or sanitise as regularly as required and continue to practise social distancing.
While many of us have already been vaccinated, there are still many others who are not for whatever reasons best known to them.
Let us also protect them against catching the virus because according to information released by the World Health Organisation, they are at greater risk of falling seriously ill if they contracted COVID-19.
There is still a chance to vaccinate those who have not been vaccinated yet. Let us find our way to vaccination centres to take our COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.
Let us not take the increasing numbers lightly as the slightest increase in COVID-19 cases should be a cause for concern. We are all aware that COVID-19 left many young children orphaned, and robbed many households of breadwinners. Let us try by all means to avoid a repeat of the COVID-19 death toll that we saw in the previous year from April through to July.
People at the time were even becoming accustomed to death announcements because the notices were that frequent and the number was scary for such a small population. Let us all take care of ourselves!
