Tholakele’s side, Township Rollers on Saturday released a statement to reveal that the club had entered in an agreement with one-time league champions, Malabo Kings over the sale of Tholakele.
However, the player’s family rejected the move due to ‘health conditions’ while Rollers could not go further into details. “Considering the wages proposed, other personal terms, playing conditions and pledge to seek a future move to Europe, the Malabo offer proved the best.
But the transfer has been stalled with Tholakele’s mother informing the club that, owing to other considerations, a move to a country far away would not be wise in the current circumstances.
As such, the move has not materialised and she remains with Rollers,” the club statement reads. Rollers further said they would be open to sell Tholakele once the club receives more suitable offer.
Sources, however, disclosed to Monitor Sport that the weather conditions in the western coast of Central Africa state could have been a major factor in the consideration of the deal.
“The family did not give the club much reasons but the weather could have been a major player here. It is mostly humid with very hot air while most of the time it is either raining or its cloudy.
Due to the weather conditions the family believed she would struggle to adapt and could lead to factors that could leave the player home sick. The other issue was the language barrier, they use Spanish, French and Portuguese in Equatorial Guinea, English is rarely used,” the source said. Meanwhile, the Mares’ 2022 WAFCON squad has attracted interest from clubs abroad.
Midfielder, Lone Gaofetoge has terminated her contract with Zambian side, The Elite Ladies and looking to pursue a move to Europe, the club confirmed. Zebras’ duo of Thabang Sesinyi and Gape Mohutsiwa has signed with the Arab clubs. Mohutsiwa has joined Algerian top-flight side, Sportive Olympique de Chlef on a three-year deal while Sesinyi is said to have agreed terms with a club in the Middle East.
Lebogang Ditsele is being assessed by Sekhukhune United in South Africa while Mothusi Cooper is also said to be inching closer to a move in the South African elite league.
