The trio of Mohwasa, Happy Bashe from the north, and Naledi Akambakamba reportedly joins the BNF leadership elected in July in Gaborone that is expected to take the party to the 2024 General Election.

The BNF constitution mandates that after an elective congress that elects the party leadership, the president appoints three people he deems can add value to the party.

The BNF central committee is elected into office for three years.

BNF spokesperson, Justin Hunyepa claimed ignorance of the latest appointments indicating that even if Boko could have chosen some names as suggested, the whole process is long, as the president has to consult his nominees who may not be ready to serve at that time.

“I am hamstrung to comment on the list you are suggesting as it may change. Look, the president before appointing people has to consult them and all that. It’s a process and he has powers to do so after all,” said Hunyepa, who said he did not have answers for now.

The appointment of Mohwasa back into the BNF central committee after losing the secretary-general position to Ketlhalefile Motshegwa recently is an interesting development. But, this appointment, in particular, may set tongues wagging in the party, as it would seem Boko has a soft spot for Mohwasa.

The appointment further speaks to many developments including Boko’s firm trust in Mohwasa as a party cadre. The appointment of two women is also a motion of confidence in the party's female cadres.
