The event, which is headlined by local artist Charma Gal and Rhumba star Koffi Olomide from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is billed for the National Stadium on October 29.
During a breakfast briefing Tuesday, Charma Gal challenged the corporate community to take advantage of this event and approach them for partnerships.
She said this is an opportunity of a lifetime for companies as they are bringing an international star with a huge reputation. Charma Gal advised potential sponsors not to wait until the last minute before being part of the festival. As one of the headliners, Charma Gal also said she is ready to show Koffi Olomide and the rest of the world her talent. “Koffi Olomide comes with a big reputation but I want to show him that there is also Charma Gal. Come October 29, the world will see the best of Charma Gal,” she said.
Koffi Olomide is a multi-award-winning artist and founder of the Quartier Latin International Orchestra. With over 30 studio albums to his credit, the singer has carved a reputation as one of the fundamental growth pillars of the Congolese, and by extension, the African music industry. Event promoter Lesego ‘Lesh T’ Tikologo of Lesh T Entertainment said Koffi Olomide will come with a band of 19 people, which includes his dancers and instrumentalists. “Let me make it clear that Koffi Olomide is coming to Botswana on the 29th.
He is coming with a band of 19 people. Additionally, there are about five journalists from the DRC who want to come as well. I have seen on social media and asked by many people if Koffi Olomide is coming. Rest assured that Mopau Mokundzi will be in Botswana on the 29th,” said Tikologo.
He explained that Koffi Olomide now carries a diplomatic passport after the multiple-award-winning music veteran was bestowed his country’s Culture Ambassador. It is said that the appointment would see Koffi Olomide, who has been active in the Congolese music industry for over five decades, help boost DRC’s increasing attempts at repositioning its cultural and creative economy.
Congolese Rumba was officially added to the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) heritage list, last December. Meanwhile, the organisers revealed a ticket special of P250 from August 27-31. Initially, the standard ticket for the festival went for P500 while early bird was sold at P300.
