Robyn L drops debut single

The Boston Massachusetts-based singer/songwriter blends easy listening with a powerful message in her first drop of 2022 so far.
The song was dropped last week Friday.
Co-produced, mixed and mastered by Maztypebeat, the new track will be available on all streaming platforms. Malibu Barbie is the first in a series of singles the singer will be releasing before an EP in the next coming months.
“Malibu Barbie is a song about unrequited love from someone who is playing games with you,” the artist said. “I create alternative music mostly, but my music definitely has influences from other genres such as Pop, Hip-Pop/Rap, and R&B.
Growing up I really liked musicals, but I also liked a lot of alternative artists such as Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez, The Neighbourhood, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and Nirvana. My diverse music taste always inspires me to blend genres in my music.” After attending a convivial concert back in September 2021, Robyn L was inspired to pen her song, Malibu Barbie.
Fresh from the epic music concert, she woke up with a lost voice, melody in her head the next day and created the song that same day. She recalled: “I think that’s one of my songs that came quickly and easy to me when writing.
Usually, I come up with my song concepts before attempting to write lyrics but sometimes when I’m writing a song, I have chords and melodies ideas first so I’ll sing gibberish lyrics until I come up with something I like. I came up with a gibberish lyric ‘running late to the party’ and ‘Malibu Barbie’ rhymed so I stuck with that concept.” Robyn L is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter, producer and actress.
She is currently studying Songwriting at Berklee College of Music, where she is a songwriting major. She is developing her music skills to create her own songs and in the long run extend her song writing services to other artists. She added: “I am also very passionate about acting. I went to a performing arts high school in California where I was a musical theatre major as well as a songwriting major.
Right now, I want to act in TV shows and films and I when I am older and have established a career in the acting and music industries, I would love to act on Broadway.” With over 400K followers on Tiktok, she has a complex personality, which she shares in her music. She is a black alternative artist who is not afraid to blend genres and refuses to be boxed into one.
Her music draws influences from Indie, Alt rock, to 90s grunge, classical music, hip-pop and more. The dark sound of most of her music often juxtapositions her delicate and haunting vocals. Her lyrics, which paint a fantastical world for every song, often have a twist with a touch of melancholy.
