The event held Saturday was an activation tour of the popular local music festival, which is normally held in Serowe during the festive season.
It was a new initiative held under the B&R brand, which was organised to, among others, increase B&R’s footprint, create a platform for local artists to perform alongside South Africa's heavyweights, as well as expose them to the international market. South African artists AKA, Musa Keys, and Felo Le Tee headlined the event alongside BW’s finest, ATI and Han C, while on the decks were Casper The DJ, Benny T, Teaz, DJ Bunny.
Media personalities, Leungo Pitse and Sadi Dikgaka were the event hosts. According to one of the organisers, Goaba Mojakgomo, the event was a success as it attracted many patrons, including over 500 from Botswana. Having successfully tested the waters across borders, Mojakgomo said they are now looking to host events in South Africa on an annual basis. “The show was a success.
I’m happy to share that already there are two artists, a South African and a Motswana, who have agreed to do a song together, so we are hoping to see how that will pan out,” said Mojakgomo.
He continued: “Our first trial was a success, no we have just learnt that doing a show in SA is easy, so we have since agreed that we are going to do annual shows (that are going to be happening) in South Africa around Botswana's Independence Day for the benefit of the objectives that I mentioned earlier.” He said other local promoters took advantage of this show to sell theirs in South Africa. He said they had three buses that transported patrons from Botswana to South Africa while others drove themselves or used public transport.
