“This is an idea that was brainstormed and initiated earlier this year around March in Kanye, Botswana. It is supposed to be held every last Saturday of each month. The aim is to help grow our local acts. It is also to promote and elevate Kanye village as an entertainment hub as its population does allow for such,” explained event coordinator, Michael “UncleDipopae” Sekaba.
“The picnic is meant to add hoc with venues so as to allow for small scale businesses such as food stalls, alcohol stalls, venue owners, accommodation within guest houses to flourish on the dates set for the picnic by hosting and serving people from outside Kanye,” he said.
He further stated that they only had one international act being PK93 from Monotone Productions in South African, whilst the long list of entertainers was reserved for Botswana acts. The local line-up consists of DJ Gouveia, Silva T, Crespo, Girls on Mask, MC Lentle, Viral Gucci, upcoming rap artist by the name Dwayne and many more.
Sekaba disclosed that they were going to tighten their security as personal safety was of utmost importance. He also emphasised that the security would be vigilant even at the parking lots to ensure that there were no break-ins since customer satisfaction was their main priority. Even though this month’s theme is All White, he said November would be an All Black event. He also explained that they were trying to also bring out fashion sense in their village by also ensuring that they promote local tailors/designers by changing themes with every event to be held.
Tickets are available at Spar supermarkets countrywide and Shell filling station at Mongala Mall in Kanye. Tickets are sold at general ticket P50 (single) and double tickets that are limited at P80.
