According to the event’s headmaster (coordinator), Taolo ‘Taes’ Entaile, the event's slogan for this year is ‘Ke 2lala Ngwanaaka’ while the theme is 'fashionable school uniform'.
The theme allows patrons to be creative with what they want to wear in terms of school uniform.
The second day event will be held at Game City Rooftop Parking and attire theme is Bak2Lala PE Open where revellers are strictly expected to wear tennis kits. Entaile explained that the event was a well-curated brand known and celebrated for unique marketing concepts, trendsetting merchandise, classy branding, music hits and events with a velvet touch.
Following its inception back in January 2004, the event has attained legendary status in the entertainment and lifestyle space. It has become a brand that defines the urban culture and has influenced the direction of local music and lifestyle events movement over the years.
“For 14 years the Bak2Skul event managed to bring together old school mates every first day of the year to celebrate their old school days in tailored school uniform. It is a tradition and way of life that is stuck to every 'student' who is opportune to experience the Bak2Skul wave. Come January 1 and 2, 2023 it is going to be good vibes, new memories and wonderful lessons,” he said.
He further explained that the event came about after friends got together and decided they wanted to wear their school uniform to create good memories like they used to during their school days.
He also explained that every time they hosted the event, they came up with a fresh slogan for that year. “The Syllabus is Expensive Private Skul Musik (EPSM) ke English Medium. You can check our stall by Railpark mall or follow our social media platforms Bak2Skul to appreciate what merchandise we have for the event. Bak2lala exercise socks are the hot property in the market now.
Patrons are spoiled for choice to choose between the ones that are branded ‘Adi Wee Once’ or ‘Le Iketlile Le Bad Bad’ underneath at P100 per pair,” he announced.
He further explained that they chose the theme Ke 2lala Ngwanaaka to certify that it was a Tried Tested Trusted (TT) brand and that there was no other that could do better.
He also pointed out that the event has evolved over the years as a household brand, creating a tradition, culture and movement that reached beyond borders. He said Bak2Skul was revamped to a social entrepreneurship entity that focuses on the education space to develop products that address the needs and welfare of students across board.
He explained that 15% of the brand focused on the events space and 85% on product development, student social welfare. However, he pointed out that hosting that event for all those years had not been a walk in the park saying they experienced all sorts of challenges. He said they struggled finding financial support from the local business community.
They have partnered with G4S to provide security at the events. He said Bak2skul products include school shoes, school bags just to mention a few. For this year's edition, artists booked to perform include Anthem, Frost, Quest, Beetee, Chrispin, 4DD, Lefatshe, Modric, TeddyIsNotADJ, KRM, Bunny and Khebah. The exchange students includes Toss and other artists who are yet to be confirmed such as MacG, Mellow &Sleazy, Khuli Chana and Sdala B and Paige. “Our monitors (MCees) include Thabo, Hey Nyeeenah and CBD.
However, Bak2lala PE Open acts include Mr O, Oneal, Kellz, Blaze Knight, Romeo, Chopsy and Garvi. We promise our patrons nothing but fireworks all the way. It will be a proper reunion at Bak2Skul and an experience at Bak2lala PE Open so do not miss out,” he said. For Bak2lala PE Open, tickets are sold at P250 early registration, P300 late registration and P550 double registration.
