The South African group was booked by the organiser for the event hosted on New Years' eve in Kanye. In what was supposed to be the first installment of the show featuring International artists being Blaq Diamond and Black Motion, sadly Black Motion was a no show. Initially the event coordinator, Michael Sebaka, said Black Motion did not show up due to 'unforseen circumstances'. This week when reached for a comment by Showtime, the event organiser explained that Black Motion were infact fully paid and they were supposed to arrive 30mins prior to their performance for sound and equipment quality check. 'When the time of arrival was announced none of their numbers were going through although they spent the night in Botswana as they were performing at Cigar Lounge in Gaborone on December 30, 2022,' he said.
Asked about rumours that Black Motion has split he said: 'It is true that Back Motion split, originally it was Thabo Small and Rob Murder. Rob Murder has since decided to focus on a solo career leaving everything Black Motion to Thabo Small who has since partnered with Problém Child to form the Black Motion that we were expecting here in Kanye.'
The event, however did go on, instead the organisers roped in surprise acts in the line-up such as DJ Ngwazi, Ancestral Rituals, Maatla Ephraim Basha, Lerofo and BJB, which made the event a spectacular. Through that good gesture, the fans were left thrilled and begging for more. 'Our mandate of promoting local Artists in Kanye was a success as they were able to share the stage with Blaq Diamond, with whom we are hoping for a collaboration going forward. The crowd came out in numbers and they had adhered to the Theme of Denim and White, it was a beautiful and energetic event. Although there were a couple of mishaps that occured during the event such as phone theft being the most rampant, people enjoyed themselves. We, however accept advices and positive criticism going forward and we will work very hard on it.'
Commenting on some of the mishaps like traffic into the venue event, theft the event organiser says he welcomes criticism and will do better next time. Sebaka also pointed out that congestion was also a great challenge they faced because there was a hike in numbers of attendees, He explained further that there were three parking spaces allocated to the event, but the third was unused as they complained of the walking distance.
'Our problem is that people's refusal to cooperate with security to find better parking and avoid traffic contributed to traffic congestion .We are however looking for a bigger venue so as to be able to accommodate everyone without any hustle. We are looking forward to the same energy, vibes and crowd on February 25, 2023 as we will be hosting Coolerbox Lifestyle Picnic 5.0 school themed Uniform Edition in Kanye, which will have entertainment only from local Artists,' he ended.
