The group is made up of former Super League players, match officials and administrators among others from 1970-1999.
The Super League Legends will host a fundraising dinner on February 25 as the first initiative to source funds for their cause. There will be a raffle competition where President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Rolex watch will be the main prize.
Masisi will grace the event alongside South African football legend, Doctor Khumalo. “This is not going to be just a gala dinner but the mother-of-all gala dinners. Our number one citizen has pledged a Rolex watch that will be raffled for.
Those who know it say it is a very expensive watch. On first request, the President decided on his own to pledge a Rolex. The details of the raffle will be shared next week. Doctor Khumalo will be here also as a motivational speaker.
They have a similar setup of former players in South Africa and he will be here to share his experience with us,” Super League Legends’ public relations officer, Jim Kelly said.
Chairperson, Freddie Ramodise said as a newly formed establishment there is a need for a cash boost and the gala dinner is the first initiative. He said the aim is to create a support system for these legends through various initiatives. Ramodise said Super League Legends will operate as a Cooperative Society to empower their members by providing life skills training and financial support.
“To this end, we intend to set up an office equipped with the necessary resources, including furniture, a mobility vehicle and personnel to manage our operations. Our goal is to reach out to as many football players as possible and to do so we plan to establish regional branches. This will allow us to take our services closer to the legends and ensure everyone has access to support,” Ramodise said.
He further said the Super League Legends intend to work with relevant stakeholders to alleviate the financial challenges faced by former players in need by offering life skills training including financial management, entrepreneurship skills, and health and wellness for both present and future footballers. The Super League Legends gala dinner and raffle is a red-tie event and will be held at Boipuso Hall.
The tickets for the event will sell from next week with the VVIP ticket going for P10,000. The VIP ticket will be sold at P5,000, the corporate table at P10,000, and the standard ticket is P500.
