“We are now back in full action, full motion as we all know that in 2020 and 2021 there was little action as some of our traditional activities, programmes, or projects were either not held at all or in some instances they were modified,” Serufho said during a media briefing this week.

'And for this year, we have effectively reverted to the pre-COVID era,” Serufho added.

He said with the effects of COVID-19 slowing waning, BNSC will host fully fledged ‘National Sports Awards’ for the first time in three years. “I am happy to announce that our National Sports Awards will be held on May 6, 2023, at a venue that will be announced in due course and hopefully before this month ends,” he said. Serufho further added that they would also welcome back their ‘Sponsors Night Dinner’ to be held on July 7 to appreciate sponsors who have been supporting the BNSC.

Furthermore, Serufho revealed that the Botswana Games would also return. “The Botswana Games will also make a return on December 2023 and this time around they might be slightly modified compared to the pre-COVID era,” he said. It is expected that the Botswana Games will be held at venues for all 13 sporting teams so that they still maintain the order of protecting young sportspersons from contracting COVID-19, as it has not gone away but has only simmered down.

In addition, Serufho said the BNSC will establish development centres as a complimentary programme to the Botswana Games. “We will establish development centres in 16 districts in the country for seven sports and these centres will be open to young people who may be in school or out of school,” Serufho said.

He added BNSC will see to it that the centres have coaches that will help with everyday operations. In the process of establishing the centres, Serufho said they have already purchased some of the required equipment which is being distributed to the 16 districts.
