In an interview with Arts & Culture, the event organiser and founder, Bokamoso Kabo-Kgopo explained that the occasion is a Pop-up market with a touch of lifestyle specially crafted for local small and medium enterprises (SMMEs) as well as people looking to immerse their tastes in local flavours and brands.
“As an organisation, we strive to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit in Botswana.
The idea to put the event together was inspired by the idea that as Batswana we have always traded and more Batswana have now picked up one trade or the other and often don’t find a place to engage with potential buyers,” Kabo-Kgopo said.
A number of local disc jokeys have been lined up to entertain patrons on the day. They DJs include Ricky Lamar, Wallay, DJ EARTH, Hapex Guru, DJ Sway, DJ Tango while local influencer, Kris Bareki will be Mceeing.
Kabo-Kgobo said they see the event as an opportunity to invest in an effort to push government’s agenda of working with both public and private sectors to diversify the economic activities in Botswana.
She said the event is aimed at providing whole-family entertainment and feature shopping stalls, kiddies’ entertainment, refreshment stalls and food stalls available.
“The Last Days of Summer we are bringing patrons premier entertainment for the whole family and shopping experience. We also collect clothes at the event and give to the less fortunate,” she added.
As part of the build-up to this event, she said they held three activations at Kana Kgang in Gaborone West (G-West Phase 1). “We so not only focused on making money but we also care about things like health hence why we had non-communicable diseases aerobics that are free for the public as these are the very diseases that kill the youth, affect most businesses and the economy of our country. We strive to leave a mark,” she said.
