Reports have been rife that the former Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development is angling for a return to Lekidi Football Centre. However, he said the speculation is untrue.
“(It is) Not true at all,” Makgalemele curtly said when asked about reports he would be contesting. Quizzed if he would reconsider his stance when approached to contest, Makgalemele did not rule out a possible return.
“I doubt (that I will contest), but in life, you can never say never especially given that my period as the BFA president was a huge success with my team comprising the likes of Segolame Ramotlhwa, Tshidi Kowa, Puma Matlhware, Tebogo Sebego, and Maokaneng Bontshetse,” he said. Makgalemele is actively involved in football and is the patron of the Super League Legends.
“That's where I shall focus. We are at an advanced stage of registering the Super League Legends Cooperative Society that will look at the socio-economic issues of retired Super League Legends (players, administrators, technical, referees),” he said. The former Shoshong Member of Parliament said he occasionally helps at Shoshong United and Notwane.
If Makgalemele enters the BFA presidency race, he will likely come up against fellow Notwane backer, Tebogo Sebego and the incumbent BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti. BFA vice president, Moakaneng Bontshetse was credited with an interest but that seems to be cooling. The BFA goes to the polls next year in October, where Letshwiti will reportedly seek a third term, while Sebego will look to bounce back after serving the association between 2012 and 2016.
