Chiefs, CRACKiT ‘back in love’

Although the financial details of the sponsorship are still sketchy at the moment, Mmegi Sport can reveal that the Debswana First Division side has entered into a three-year deal with CRACKiT Botswana. The deal will see CRACKiT Botswana take care of players’ welfare, camping, transport and logistics. The two parties have briefly worked together previously, at a time when the club was still under the previous executive committee led by Edwin Mothulatshipi. The company management had made it clear they wanted a stake in the club when efforts were made to privatise the club. However, things did not go according to plan and CRACKiT Botswana bought a stake in another First Division South League club, City Polar. The team went on to become a force in the second-tier league and missed promotion to the Premier League by a whisker after losing the last game of the season.
Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, Chiefs chairperson, Victor Kobe confirmed the deal between the club and CRACKiT Botswana but said they will announce the total figure of the sponsorship soon. He said as things stand, they have adopted the same model they used before as it is 'rewarding'. “This time around we have not attached our ground to the contract. Development will be done outside this contract,” Kobe said. Asked whether there will not be issues of conflict of interest since the company also has a stake in City Polar, Kobe said as the club, they see a benefit similar to when one company decides to sponsor three or four teams in the same league.
Meanwhile, Kobe said they are not aware of any impending litigation between the club and the previous sponsors, DC Tours. “I know nothing of any pending lawsuit but as I said before, our club is more than ready for anything, from anyone,” he said.
