Let's declare war on drugs

Unfortunately, where we are at the right time now because drug use and abuse, the country is in a deep, deep, deep hole! Drug peddlers and drug lords have taken a grip on the nation's most precious gems – the youth – while decimating its greatest resource, to fulfil its potential.

They have found a niche in destroying futures and stealing the country's next best hope for a bit of considerable wealth in a few pockets at the expense of the masses who look to an uncertain fate. We should stand as a country and find ways to curb this evil that is devouring our children. Recently on Facebook, someone posted a distressing message from a father who lost his son to drugs.

Rightfully so, the father was very angry at the very people who sell drugs to our children! Why in the world does it seem like these drug peddlers and drug lords get arrested and are immediately released or get a slap on the wrist for their ugly crimes? Is it because they are connected or is it that the bigwigs who supply the drugs are people in the system?

We need to come together as a community and fight this problem! We have to wake up and smell the coffee; our children are perishing and all thanks to scums who think they can get rich by destroying other people’s lives. That's a shame! All drug peddlers and drug dealers should be ashamed of the amount of destruction they are causing the nation. We need to lobby government to tighten laws on drugs, drug lords, and drug peddlers.

They need to be locked up and as many would say, the key should be thrown away where no one can get it! We are a relatively small country, with a small population.

If left to their own devices, these selfish people who only think of enriching themselves at the expense of the whole nation will get away with minor sentences. We have a lot to think about. Just a tip of the iceberg on the effects of abuse of illicit drugs is that it affects one’s mental and physical health. These drugs usually cause increased strain on the liver, which may lead to liver failure. Other life-threatening consequences of using drugs may include seizures, stroke, mental confusion and brain damage! As stated, this is just one of the many effects of drug addiction.

It is not a joke! It is deadly. While some use drugs knowingly thinking it is part of their recreational activities or thinking it is some kind of lifestyle, the fact remains, drugs are deadly! Many have lost their jobs, property, health and ultimately their livelihood to drugs. We need to stand together to save our children from drugs. Let us declare war on drugs as a country and petition government to do something about the drug scourge!
