During a media engagement session in Gaborone on Tuesday, Mbatha indicated four teams will be relegated at the end of next season, while only two will be promoted. The promoted sides will be the champions from the First Division South and North, meaning there will be no play-offs. The development will see the 2024/2025 season start with 14 teams.

“The rules have changed. Botswana Football League wants to see less number of clubs in the next season. As a result for the next season there will be no promotion playoffs. Next season we relegate four teams and promote two teams, and the other year we do the same until we reach twelve,” Mbatha said.

Meanwhile, Mbatha said clubs that do not meet Club Licensing requirements will not be given a license to participate in the league.
