In an interview with Arts & Culture, Motswiri revealed that he used to earn a small income by just selling food. He said things took a turn for the worst for his small business when COVID-19 and the SOE emerged.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, which barred him from selling food from his bucket, Motswiri was forced to come up with another income stream to sustain himself. “I later decided to legally incorporate my photography business as a way to survive during the SOE as I had to stop my food business,” he said. Niche Photography was started back in 2021 and since then it is still standing on its feet.
“It has been more than two years since Niche Photography was established and the customers from my food business migrated with me onto my photography business. This has contributed immensely to my business,” expressed Motswiri. With his initial customers continuing to offer him the much-needed support, Motswiri echoed that his business has not had much of the hiccups on his journey.
“Business has been okay for the past years,” he said. Reminiscing on his first year since he established Niche Photography, Motswiri stated that he spent the year gathering information.
“During the first few years my focus was learning and establishing myself reputably in the market and that has really gone well for me,” Motswiri said. Talking about what has been great to his enterprise, Motswiri elucidated that his journey has been blessed with great people. He said he has always met people that are always ready to share their experiences in the industry with him, break bread with him and collaborate with him as he believes the learning curve to him is working with people that have experience in the photography saturated market.
Motswiri echoed that Niche Photography would forever be his inspiration to keep him going as he is always working hard to upgrade the Niche brand. Motswiri, who hails from Mankgodi, advised people to never be deterred to follow their dreams and aspirations to earn a living.
