Scrumptious treats: Ngwako is eyeing further growth for his catering business

Ngwako, who is a 20-year old self made entrepreneur, started the journey of using his God-given talent of cooking to sustain his livelihood some years ago and ever since then, life has improved for the youthful pastry cook. In an interview with Business Monitor, Ngwako revealed he was not academically gifted when growing up, and this poor academic performance prompted him to search deep within and look towards his skills to enhance his chances of doing anything meaningful with his life. “I am gifted in my hands and not academically,” he said. “I have always known this and that is why I have been using my skill to sustain my life at my young age.”

At just 20 years of age, the spirited entrepreneur is the owner of Chef KB Food Catering Services, a catering provider that seeks to disrupt the catering industry. Ngwako says his company does not just do catering of a wide array of delicious delicacies but also provides cooking labour for corporate and social events. “Our strategy does not just anchor on cooking like many catering companies. “Instead we have developed technical skills in catering labour specialisation which gives us an edge to aggressively go after new markets in the corporate and social space and even compete there effectively,” he said. Ngwako further explained the push behind all he does is his passion for serving people and he pinpoints this desire to serve as the underlying drive for all his motives and efforts. The chef forecasts that his business will continue to grow in leaps and bounds as it has gained reasonable traction in the household event market, gaining experience in service provision.

In the process, he said, the company has gained good brand reputation. Speaking on the troubles they have encountered as an enterprise, Ngwako said they usually experience last minute bookings, which result in logistical challenges as the company finds it does not have enough time to budget and plan for events. He concluded by encouraging all Batswana, young and old, to take responsibility in the fight against unemployment and create value with their talents to create wealth for themselves and the nation.
