In an interview with Showtime, Daniel Moeng who is the organiser of the boxing match, said they never saw it coming. Moeng stated that the decision to have a fight between Amantle Brown and Girly was a spur of the moment thing.

“Amantle Brown and Girly were both our clients at the Burnout Sessions Gym, and it started off with Girly jokingly posting a status on her page that she is challenging Amantle for a boxing bout. We laughed about it, but we later realised that females tend to fight one another over petty issues and decided we should have the fight,” Moeng explained.

Moeng also said they want to use the bout to spread the message against gender-based violence (GBV) and not just have the fight for a sheer purpose of entertainment and profits.

“We decided that if these ladies are to fight, it had to be tied to a course and that course is GBV and creating awareness to the public about this never-ending battle of GBV and also about cyber bullying,” he said. With the fight to be used as a tool to combat GBV, Moeng echoed that they plan to host the fight during the course of ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’. He said he feels that the message will carry more weight even as people would be advocating against GBV on the 16 Days of Activism, which kick-starts on November 25 until December 10. However, the official date and venue for the fight will be announced in due course.

Moeng also stated that both Amantle Brown and Girly are the best protagonists for the fight to carry the message. “Having Amantle and Girly as the main headliners is important because they have their own stories and experiences they will share with the public with time and this is the perfect time for them to heal and help the nation through their well established brands,” said Moeng. Meanwhile, the organiser added that the two musicians are dusting off their gloves and hitting it hard at the gym as they want to look the part on the day of the fight. Moeng said the two women are training with qualified professionals for both physical training and learning the dynamics of boxing.
