The championships run until July 11. National team coach, Nason ‘Hadji’ Maotwe said preparations for the championships went according to plan. He stated that the team has been in a training camp for a month, although some athletes could not attend due to school/work commitments.

“I can safely say everything is in place, the team is ready for the championships. We arrived in two groups in Paris because other athletes had issues with their visas. All the athletes that I wanted in my team are here and that was made possible through funding from the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture,” he said. Maotwe also said the entire team has been classified and ready to compete.

When asked about the set target, he said the team has a combination of new and seasoned athletes and there is a possibility of bringing a medal home. He said at the last World Paralympics Athletics Championships, which were held in 2019, Edwin Masuge reached the semi finals, and also qualified for the Tokyo 2020 final. The team: Men: T13 400m: Katlego Matutu, Bose Mokgwathi and Masuge.

T12: 400m: Keatlaretse ‘Carter’ Mabote, Tumo Masejane and Lame Monamati. T37 400m: Ronald Rich and Thabiso Moroka. Women: T13 100m: Gloria Majaga. T12: 100m and 400m: Tshedimoso Mogweng.
