Seetso’s impressive run continues

Seetso is pushing hard to enter the junior grand slams and has shown no signs of slowing down. These championships, organised by Botswana Tennis Association (BTA), have been running for the last 40 years.

Seetso defeated Edgar Kazembe in the semi-final before facing Tapera who was the 2022 champion. In the women’s section, defending champion, Chelsea Chakanyuka came up against Kelebogile Monnayoo in a repeat of the 2022 final. Chakanyuka triumphed 7-6, 6-2 to successfully defend her title. In the women’s doubles, Chakanyuka teamed up with Leungo Monnayoo to defeat Kelebogile and Anele Maplanka, 6-1, 6-4. In the men’s doubles, Seetso and Tapera put aside their rivalry to defeat Shingirai Muzondiwa and Edgar Kazembe, 6-4, 6-4. The winners in the men and women's singles went home with P5,000 each. Meanwhile, Botswana is part of six countries competing in the 6th edition of the zonal 12 and under competition in Mozambique.

The competition which started on Tuesday and ends on Saturday has attracted the hosts, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The competition serves as a qualifying event for the 12th and Under African Junior Championships (AJC) team competitions.
