Broadhurst Police Station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae said the accident occurred at around 11:40pm and appears as if one of the drivers failed to stop at the traffic lights causing a head-on collision.

Lokae stated that the other vehicle was driven by a 32-year-old man who escaped uninjured.

“The other vehicle was turning towards the Ledumang side while the other was driving straight, facing south from the north. It appears that one of the drivers failed to stop resulting in the collision. The woman sustained a fractured right thigh and head injuries, and is currently hospitalised at Princess Marina [Referral] Hospital in a stable condition,” he said.

Lokae pleaded with motorists to reduce their speed when approaching traffic lights and be cautious of other motorists while driving at night.

“Accidents like this could be avoided with drivers paying attention when driving.

We understand that people are afraid of being attacked by thieves waiting at the traffic lights at night but they should not risk their lives by failing to observe oncoming traffic,” Lokae said.
