In addition, the two will also represent the country at the Junior World Championships to be held in Israel in September. The seventh Commonwealth Youth Games will take place on the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago between August 4 and 11 where more than 1,000 athletes and para-athletes between the ages of 14-18 are expected to participate in seven sports.

According to both Junior and Kyra, this will be their first swimming competition outside Africa and they are super excited to wear the blue, black, and white on an international platform. For Kyra, who is a Form Five student at Enko Botho, this is an exciting opportunity for her to represent her country.

“I am excited at the opportunity to represent the country at this level and am looking to do my absolute best and give it my all and hopefully bring back a medal,” she said. The Commonwealth Youth Games is an invaluable springboard for the stars and leaders of tomorrow, contributing to the further development of youth sport throughout the Commonwealth, and this is precisely what Junior is hoping to achieve at the games – to propel his swimming career and get into more international competitions. “I am working towards improving my PB and getting a qualification for the Olympics.

My dream is to represent the country in swimming at the next Olympics,” said 16-year-old Junior. By supporting and encouraging its students to take up and pursue sports, Enko Botho is committed to the use of sports as a holistic child development and aims to become a leading institution that uses sports as a driver for educational excellence in Botswana.
