The accused, Gomolemo Mmotlenyane, 40, who shares three children with his slain wife, is facing a single count of murder. He allegedly fatally stabbed his wife, Kebabope Mmotlenyane, 34, on May 24, 2023.

He killed Kebabope, a person living with albinism, at a counselling centre in an incident which sent shockwaves across the country. In court this morning, the murder-accused father pleaded with the court to direct social workers to assist in the care of his children, who are now parentless because of his action. The children are currently in the custody of his in-laws.

In a previous mention, Mmotlenyane was denied bail and remanded in custody by Magistrate Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi. Now that he is remanded in prison and cannot care for his children, Mmotlenyane asked for social workers to intervene.

“I would like to see my children looked after by the social workers by assisting where they could with their well-being,” Mmotlenyane said.

Moremi-Ramakoloi noted his plea and assured that his children will be well looked after by his in-laws and that the social workers will assist where possible. In the end, he was further remanded in custody and will appear again on August 8.
