Nyatanga finds solace in visual arts

In an interview with Arts & Culture, Nyatanga revealed to this publication that art is the only thing that gives him joy.

“I decided to pursue art as a source of income for me because out of all the other businesses I had tried before, art is something I enjoy doing while making money at the same time. Art is something that I am only very comfortable doing each and every time,” Nyatanga revealed.

The 33-year-old who hails from Marapong near Francistown stated that art has given him hope that he will one day succeed. Nyatanga stated that his art situate himself mostly about paintings. He feels that in journey as an artist, painting is one thing he does best. Additionally he said there is nothing that he cannot do when it comes to paintings. “I do paintings on canvas, on walls, on clothes.

Basically I paint on anything,” he proudly said. However, Nyatanga stated that while painting is his strong point, he is also capable to do other forms of art. “I also do pencil drawings and in fact that is how I started when I discovered my talent. I knew how to draw before I learnt how to paint,” Nyatanga said. He said his motivation is to bring life into peoples’ houses with his paintings.

“My artwork focuses more on decorating walls in peoples’ homes, offices, hotels and schools,” he said. Nyatanga said he could do other forms of painting when required to. “I also do portraits for those who want their faces done,” Nyatanga said. He said he has accepted that business is never constant. “I started selling art in 2015 and business has been up and down to say the least.

Sometimes it is really slow but it is something that I am so passionate about so I always understand that days are not the same, but believe that better days are coming,” he confidently said. Even though he showed concern about his business never being constant, the man from Marapong said he continues to look out for other people more especially children.

“I always teach kids the basics and it is always a good felling interacting with them because it brings back memories of my childhood when I discovered my talent and the feeling stayed with me up to today,” he revealed. Nyatanga also disclosed that he has even donated some paintings to the Sir Ketumile Masire Foundation. Commenting on his future plans as a visual artist, he stated that his wish is to open an art school.

“I would really like to take my art business somewhere, well established but my biggest dream is to have an art school to really cater for those kids that are talented but can’t afford materials. I know the feeling as I have been there,” wished Nyatanga.
