Disruptions at the UB

These include student allowances, safety on campus, Disability Support Services as well as Bachelor of Science Students applications. The Executive Management Team has and is currently working on measures geared towards addressing the said issues. The University disapproves action by the SRC to intentionally disrupt classes. It should be noted that the SRC has no legal right as it contravenes the Student Code of Conduct and has no legal right to cancel classes. The disruption of classes by the SRC is highly inappropriate as it brings the image of the University into disrepute. The UB has an obligation to assist the sponsor (DTEF) with due diligence to avoid contravening the sponsorship agreement. The Senate approved the results for Semester Two of 2022/23 on June 16, 2023 and after their full verification, those for the DTEF sponsored students who attained Proceed (Good Academic Standing) were shared with the DTEF on June 29, 2023. The University acknowledges that there was an outstanding list of students who were still sitting for their supplementary examinations. Nevertheless, the list was submitted to the DTEF on July 31, 2023. The University is alive to the concerns over safety around the campus and is in the process of contracting a security services provider to reinforce the existing security measures. Meanwhile, security patrols have been increased in and around campus while the number of protection services personnel at the entrances of the student residences has been doubled to monitor movement around the hostels. The University protection services personnel will be working double shift to increase presence of security on campus. The University assures the student community that existing security personnel are working round the clock to ensure the safety of all people and property within the university. The University is an inclusive community and as such will continue to provide support services to students living with disabilities to facilitate an equitable and conducive learning environment for all.
Release Two
Pertaining to students who were completing level 100 of Bachelor of Science (general) during Semester Two of 2022/23 who have since applied for level 200 entry programmes across the University, they are continuing to receive the outcome of their applications from Faculties. The Department of Academic Services continues to receive such applications from those applying into new programmes and they are being admitted as they come. Late registration is ongoing, and if need be, it will be extended to accommodate all students who wish to register and study at the UB. Teaching and learning continues as scheduled.
The UB management assures the public that they take student welfare issues seriously and will continue to keep the student community and the public informed with a view to making the University environment conducive for teaching and learning. The University will continue to engage with the SRC to find amicable solutions towards all student welfare issues.
