Speaking at Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) annual conference in Palapye this morning, Minister Annah Mokgethi said the envisaged law will hopefully close the existing gap. Mokgethi says the envisaged law aims to give the Commissioner of Labour powers to appoint industrial boards ,which will review wages in the various industrial sectors.
Minister Mokgethi also acknowledged challenges faced by the teaching cadre such as hours of work, annual leave, invigilation, extra curricular activities, marking of examination papers, among others.
“These challenges require that we commit to addressing them objectively, as a collective and being as practical as is possible”, Mokgethi said and added that there is ongoing tripartite labour law review committee that is spearheading the review of labour laws.
She highlighted: 'I am eagerly awaiting the final product so that I can take it to Parliament; the adoption of the new laws is anticipated to close gaps in our laws and align them to international labour standards”.
