The event is slated to take place on September 10 at Sony Hall in New York City. Basiami, who is the creative director and founder of Glotto, revealed to Arts & Culture that her childhood dream was to conquer the fashion industry.

Whilst the industry is widely regarded in the country, Basiami stated that she never settled to sell herself short when it comes to her passion and she is grateful that she is now reaping the fruits of her hard labour. “I have always dreamed of this moment when I started my brand five years ago. I have been writing and in my last vision board that I wrote two years ago, I wrote New York City in it and this is really manifestation at this point. I have always yearned to go to New York after being inspired by The Bold and Beautiful,” the elated Basiami said. Basiami stated that she could not contain herself and was overwhelmed by emotions when she received this potentially life-changing invite.

“When I received the invitation, I was in disbelief that I was invited and it took me a while to believe this after receiving back to back emails. Being a lady from a 2.5 million country and being invited to a country of millions and millions of people, I felt everything was too good to be true. It is true and this is really the best thing to happen to me,” she added.

Furthermore, she said this is really what Glotto needs and hopes that the invite could be the turning point for Glotto to penetrate the international market. “With Glotto going to the fashion week, this is how we transition to fine designs. Glotto can now prove that luxury fashion can come out of Botswana and this will really increase our market share going forward,” Basiami said. Additionally, she explained that the invite is a sign that Botswana is not only about diamonds and beef but also has other things to offer like luxurious fashion.

She also stated that she intends to ‘make hay while the sun still shines’ out of the golden opportunity. “I really intend on polishing everything for my business and I hope that I do get scouted by talent agency magazines. I am a designer and hopefully one can take a chance with me to work with them and help with African designs,” she said.
