In an interview with Showtime, he explained that the mixtape was a whole compilation of songs with different emotions. He said the tape was a dedication to everyone who is trying to change their life for the better. He added that it was also a way of him telling people his story. “The songs were put together in June and July at different studios, including Diamond Melodies Records. They were touched by the likes of Flacko Grandsonn, DintleOnTheTrack and King Plaka. I featured a few artists in the tape including Princess and President TSS. I was the composer, songwriter and also the producer in most of the songs with the help of my team. Ever since I started showing interest in music back in 2016, I have always wanted to drop a mixtape, an EP and an album,” he said. The young man further pointed out that he was grateful that he finally got the opportunity to drop it considering the fact that he had only been dropping singles and music videos. He said it was such a good feeling for him to drop his first ever tape adding that he was also looking forward to dropping more of those. Just like any other musician, he said he goes through a lot of challenges throughout the process. Those include funding, marketing his music to a wider population. He also said he faced lack of enough time to work as he also has side hustles since the music did not really put food on the plate yet, hence his decision to start a business.
Despite going through the challenges, Kaey Maxx said he was slowly securing the bag. He explained that dropping the tape helped him grow his audience as he also got the opportunity to be interviewed by one of the greatest Mdu Tha Party at RB2. He added that he also managed to bag collaboration with Jackalass Onetym and DintleOnTheTrack, artists who played a huge role in his growth with their inspiration. “With the consistency and dedication I have for music, I see myself as the next big thing and one of the artists Botswana never had. In the next five years I see myself bringing international artists to Botswana just to see how talented we are this side. I am also the founder of a growing bottled water business called Pure Drop 02. I also see Pure Drop 02 as one of the biggest bottled water business in the industry,” said the artist.
“I know there is someone out there who is probably going through the same thing I am going through or went through, hence my advice to that person is keep doing what you are doing for the love of it, know why you started because that will keep you going. My advice does not only go to upcoming artists but to everyone even the ones who are into businesses and the creative arts,” he said. Moreover, he said he was open for new collaborations with artists, local brands, photographers/videographers and producers as well. He said it would really be great to build new networks and relationships in the industry because as brands, they needed each other to grow.
