The talented vocalist said never for one penny did he envision that he would get such a recognition in his first year as a professional artist. He was nominated under the ‘Best Dance Single’ for his single titled Nkatumele during the 2023 YAMAS nominations launch recently. As usual, the nominations had some surprises, and Thato Tladi believes he was one of them. Producer/DJ Chef Gustos led the pack after getting seven nominations.

In an interview with Arts & Culture, Thato Tladi said all he wanted was to share his talent with the people and never targeted any awards, especially as a newbie. “When I went professional a few months back, I never really saw myself getting a nomination this year but rather aimed at getting enough airplay and recognition. I also wanted to create music that makes an impact to the listener's life. However, I got nominated for one of the biggest music awards in the country and it is a shocker. This nomination really came as a bombastic surprise and I really place it on God and thank Him at the same time,” he said.

Thato Tladi indicated that it has been a good year for him and everything that comes after this nomination would be a bonus and winning the award an inspiration. He, however, said he will not put all his focus in winning the award. “We are not investing all of our emotions into it while at the same time we are not just sitting back and doing nothing as far as voting,” he said.

Meanwhile, the talented singer has continued to serve his fanatics some beautiful melodies. He has released a new single titled ‘Seponono’. “Seponono is more of a wedding song giving vibes and it has many elements of Afro pop infused to melodically exhibit a unified Afro piano,” he explained. He emphasised that his songs will be about spreading love as he firmly believes in love.
