“Construction is not specially endowed for males alone, and I am the exact proof that women can break ground in the built in industry,” she tells BusinessMonitor. Mophato is the brains behind construction outfit, Property Plug, which has been gaining foot in offering services in the sector in a youthful and spirited manner.
“We offer property valuations, lease preparations, property construction at fairly economic prices and other services ranging from maintenance to consultancy,” she said. The construction maverick reveals, however, that finding her foot in the construction space was not a linear path, she reveals that failure was her biggest and best teacher. “I never imagined I could do construction. After failing my Form Five I did an array of things to try and survive, but the silver lining was when I had a chance to work for a relative in the construction industry,” Mophato said.
According to the entrepreneur, she did not allow her shortcoming in formal education impede her creativity from adding value to the world. Her first idealisation of Property Plug began when she discovered she has a unique ability to negotiate and close deals when selling houses when she worked for a relative in the construction industry.
“I discovered selling and negotiating better prices for houses and rental property was my endowed strength and I decided to go on and open a company operating in the built in industry,” she added. Mophato narrates that Property Plug opened its doors a year ago and has managed to close deals on rentals and construction of homes for many clients who are always coming back for more.
The secret recipe that makes Property Plug a resounding success despite its infancy according to Mophato is its “fashionable and youthful marketing ability that makes our services spread like veldfire to the many Batswana in need of our services”, she adds. For the female entrepreneur, the stepping stone to where Property Plug is today was that as the founder, she never wavered nor let challenges stop her from reaching her goal. “We had to learn the ropes; I had to go back to school and get a Certificate in Real Estate.
We had to work hard as a company and today we boast of more than six members of staff in our company and we are looking to expand to further shores,” she said. “The big sharks are willing to work and not compete with us because of the unique market position we have in the market and that is going to open more doors up the value chain in the market,” she added.
