Tebogo is also a two-time World Under-20 100m champion. “With his performance, Letsile became the first African man to claim a 100m medal and the first man from Botswana to win a medal in any event at the World Athletics Championships,” reads the statement.

World Athletics further stated that having trained and developed in Botswana, Letsile represents a positive role model for aspiring athletes all over the African continent. BAA is the only federation in Africa to receive a nomination. Other nominees are the United States of America, Australia, Chile, Spain, and Thailand.
