This comes after the beauty pageantry this week opened entries for auditions.

The beauty pageant penetrated the local scene on a high note and received public praise for its massive promises, but later got backlash for allegedly failing to give the winner a brand new Haval Jolion car as a prize. In an interview with the pageantry spokesperson Kaone Moremong, she pointed out that the call for auditions has gone out adding that they would be hosting their auditions in Gaborone from January 27-28, 2024.

She added that they have an exciting plan for this year’s contest and promised to as usual raise the bar higher.

“We have set up all the necessary plans and are currently still looking for sponsors and partners. We continue to work hard to improve the pageant. Last year was the Miss Supranational Botswana debut as well as the first time we were represented at this third largest beauty pageant in the world.

We had a successful debut despite lack of financial support but we are confident that this year, our production will be bigger and better. We will continue providing a platform that develops young ladies to better understand themselves and their value in society,” she explained. Furthermore, Moremong pointed out that the aim of the pageant is to develop young ladies and support their ideas and projects and develop such persons into inspirational leaders. She added that there had been significant growth in their pageant since its establishment.

Moremong is of the view that from last year, they (organisers) learnt a lot about managing a pageant business and had great international mentors from the organisation and its management. However, she pointed out that their biggest challenge has always been financial support. For example, she said that their first pageant did not have big sponsors.

Therefore, the founders of Something Big had to bear all costs associated with organising the event, she stated. Moremong added that some of the activities included sending a country representative to the international stage. On the other hand, when asked where the Haval they promised to give the reigning queen after winning the pageantry, she explained that the prize plan had a rollout sequence, which the organisation was following as per its terms, and contractual obligations that included handing over the car upon successful completion of the ambassador’s reign.

She added that the queen had so far received all her benefits and prizes as planned. Commenting on this year’s prizes, she said the current prizes were worth P100,000 in value. She added that they were still in negotiations with partners and sponsors, hoping potential sponsors would add to the prize basket as they continued negotiating for partnerships and sponsorships. Speaking of what they would change from last year’s pageantry, she said it would be to have a pageant winner placed as a leader in a big developmental organisation that betters women leaders’ careers.

“The grand finale will be on March 31, 2024. We urge young Batswana women who aspire to be inspirational leaders to join the pageant, with the heart to win and build with us. We continue to be grateful for the support we receive from the community at large,” she ended.
