He lost the BCP primaries to Boniface Mabeo after which he retraced his steps to the opposition coalition where he quickly secured parliamentary candidacy. He will now renew his rivalry with Mabeo in the October general election.

When launching Keakile, UDC president Duma Boko likened Keakile’s return to the coalition to the biblical story of a disobedient prophet Jonah who defied his divine calling only to be cast overboard in a storm which saw him being swallowed by a whale. Boko said just like Jonah, Keakile was rescued in a marvellous manner by returning to the UDC.

In the Bible, Jonah returned to his starting point after the whale vomited him out. Boko told a crowd of UDC followers at the rally that Keakile was right where he belongs. “I welcome you to this coalition, you are going to change government. I pray that God protects you,” Boko told Keakile and council candidates in the constituency. In the 2019 General Election, the UDC was represented by Samuel Rantuana who lost to incumbent MP Lefoko Moagi of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). Mabeo at the time represented Alliance for Progressives (AP) which is now a UDC affiliate. If Moagi wins the BDP primaries, the Gamalete constituency will see the latter, Keakile and Mabeo engage in a tussle in what is expected to be a tightly contested affair.
